Am I lonely?; Dunbar Homes has 57 residents, plus many staff and volunteers, and a lifestyle program tailored to the individual resident as well as group activities. Spiritual/Pastoral care is also met according to the individual’s needs.
Am I frightened at night? ; Dunbar has 24 hour staffing, and regular security patrols overnight, as well as a gated, secure home. CCTV is also used to ensure Dunbar residents can feel safe and secure at all times.
Do I forget to take my medications?; Dunbar can organise and even administer your medications.
Do I miss meals because I don’t want to cook?; Dunbar serves meals cooked freshly every day and your dietary needs are also taken into account. Our Catering team receive regular compliments from residents, staff and visitors for the quality of our food service.
Have I lost the energy to take proper care of myself?; (for example; not cleaning the house, not showering regularly, not washing your clothes regularly); Dunbar staff clean your room every week, and you can choose to do your own washing or have our staff team look after your washing for you! If you need some help with your personal hygiene, we can assist you in a professional and dignified manner.

Dunbar Homes is a 57 bed fully accredited home ideally located in Salisbury with the Jack Young Senior Citizens Club and The Salisbury RSL Club located right on our back doorstep with public transport, Salisbury Bowling Club, Benson’s Radiology, Specialist Suites, City of Salisbury’s Library and Parabanks Shopping Centre all within an easy reach. We promote healthy ageing, independence and a quality lifestyle tailored to suit individual needs. Dunbar Homes Incorporated is a not for profit social outreach of The Presbyterian Church in South Australia and we offer high quality care in a loving, supportive and caring environment. We are fortunate to have a large band of dedicated Volunteers who enhance Resident’s lives in a multitude of ways and our dedicated and skilled staff team hold extensive Aged Care and Nursing expertise and knowledge.
All rooms at Dunbar Homes are single with their own private ensuite, with 12 of the rooms located in our secure Memory Support Unit catering for those Residents living with Dementia. Our comfortable and homely rooms have a bright window outlook onto our magnificent central gardens or onto internal courtyards and are fully carpeted with voile curtains. Each room has its own reverse cycle air-conditioner and built in wardrobe with fully equipped laundries & kitchens located in each Court.
Communal areas are bright and cheerful, and include a large main lounge, dining & activity area. Dunbar Homes also caters for residents who wish to have private functions with our fully equipped Court kitchens and many comfortable seating areas scattered throughout the complex. Our pool table is available to entertain your family and friends when they visit.
At Dunbar Homes we offer a comprehensive lifestyle/activities program tailored to individual needs promoting wellbeing and quality of life focused on a healthy ageing concept.
Dunbar Homes also provides some additional services (some at no extra cost), including personal laundry services, internet access (Fees apply) and allied health services including physiotherapy, podiatry, dental, optical and more.
We hold a non-denominational Church Service on a Thursday morning for those who wish to attend and can arrange access to a Chaplain as needed.
FEES AND CHARGES.
Basic daily fee
Based on current rates, the maximum basic daily fee is $52.71 per day, or $737.94 per fortnight
This fee helps pay for your day-to-day services such as meals, cleaning, facilities management and laundry. Everyone is expected to pay a basic daily fee to cover these services.
The basic daily fee is 85% of the single person rate of the basic age pension. The government sets the price on 20 March and 20 September each year, changing in line with increases to the age pension. Prices are published on the Department of Health website.
You pay your basic daily fee directly to your aged care home, generally on a fortnightly or monthly basis. The fee applies for every day you are a resident, including days when you might be away overnight; for example, on holiday or in hospital.
How is the basic daily fee rate worked out?
For new residents, the maximum basic daily fee is 85% of the single person rate of the basic Age Pension. From 20 Sept 2020, the single rate of the basic Age Pension is $868.30 per fortnight, and 85% of the single rate of basic Age Pension is $737.94 per fortnight or $52.71 per day. This applies even if you are a member of a couple.

How will I know what rate I should pay?
When you enter an aged care home you will receive a letter from the Department of Human Services confirming your maximum basic daily fee.
Will my basic daily fee increase?
Yes. Your basic daily fee will be indexed on 20 March and 20 September each year in line with increases to the Age Pension. The Department of Human Services will let you know when the increases occur but you can also find the current rates of the basic daily fee on the Schedule of Residential Fees and Charges.
Aged care means test assessments
To ask for an assessment, complete the Residential Aged Care Calculation of your Cost of Care form (SA457).

If you are paid a pension that is means-tested, the DHS or DVA will already hold some of your income and asset details and you will only need to complete some parts of the form.
If you are not paid a pension that is means-tested, you will need to complete the whole form. Examples of pensions that are not means-tested include:
- Blind Pension
- War Widow(er)’s Pension
- Veterans’ Disability or Allowance.
Means-tested care fee
The means-tested care fee that you pay will be between $0 to $254.91 per day.
Not everyone will have to pay a means-tested care fee. The exact amount you will pay is determined through an income and assets assessment.
The means-tested care fee is an ongoing fee that you pay towards the cost of your personal and clinical care. Personal care can include help with bathing, dressing, grooming, and going to the toilet. Clinical care can include services like specialised nursing services, medication assistance, or catheter care.
Annual and lifetime caps
There are annual and lifetime caps on means-tested care fees. The maximum an aged care home can charge you is:
- $28,338.71 per year, or
- $68,012.98 in a lifetime.
Resident’s accommodation payments can be paid as a lump sum, a daily payment or a combination of both types of payments. As individual circumstances will vary dependent of financial circumstances, Dunbar Homes will negotiate payments on an individual basis. Dunbar Homes offers one level of pricing for a ‘Standard Room’ (single room with private en-suite, air-conditioning, carpet, curtains and built in wardrobe).
The Maximum Refundable Accommodation Deposit (RAD) is $380,000 for a ‘Standard Room’. This can be paid as a Daily Accommodation Payment (DAP) of $41.74
A refundable accommodation deposit is paid as a lump sum amount, a daily payment accrues daily and is paid periodically, for example monthly and a combination payment includes both a partial lump sum and daily payments. Lump sum RAD payments are fully refundable, unless you choose to have other payments and fees deducted from this amount.
An example of a combination payment of 50% refundable deposit and 50% daily payment for a ‘Standard Room’ would be:
- Refundable Accommodation Deposit of $190,000
- A Daily Accommodation Payment of $20.87
